Tequila; We’ve Been Doing it Wrong!
July 20, 2017
National Tequila Day falls this month on July 24. So naturally, you should celebrate by drinking a little tequila!
Cue the shots, a dash of salt and a slice of lime?
Well bad news guys, we’ve all been doing it wrong!
David Allen from Patrón Tequila told the Huffington Post that tequila shots were a result of when “crappy tequila dominated the market.” As the demand for Tequila grew in the 50’s, it caused a shortage, forcing brands to produce it with less than 100% agave. “The shooting ritual was a quick way to get it down the hatch so you didn’t have to taste it. You don’t need salt and lime anymore because there’s so much good tequila on the market.”
Remember that nasty hangover you had from your first tequila experience? Well, you most likely drank ‘mixtos’ tequila, where it’s made from a combination of blue agave cactus and cane sugars.
Now that you’re ready to mend your relationship with tequila, we suggest you start by slowly sipping it! The good tequila should feel smooth in the mouth, so look for only those made with 100% agave.
